Unveiling UP Core

Press Release – Embedded World, Nuremberg Germany 2017

“The UP Team just unveiled UP Core. It is the smallest Intel Atom x5 expandable single board computer on the market. With a dimension of only 56mm x 66mm, UP Core is the heart of UP.

UP Core bridges the gap between the world of single board computers and the world of computers on module.
UP Core is powered by Intel® Atom™ x5 Z8350 QuadCore 1.44/1.92Ghz 64 bit CPU with 2/4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB eMMC 5.0, 2 x USB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI, DSI/eDP, 2 x CSI, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 and 100 pin I/O high speed expansion connector with UART, SPI, HSIC, PCI-Express, GPIO, CEC, ISH, SDIO, 5V Power all which permit to expand the features for easily developing custom carrier boards.”

UP Core is able to leverage the ecosystem of the UP Board, the first credit card sized professional maker board with Intel® Atom™ x5 technology launched in Oct 2015 on Kickstarter. The UP Board is now adopted by more than 15,000 makers in various fields such as IOT, entertainment, digital signage, smart home automation, robotics, machine vision, intelligent vending and industrial automation.

UP Core is compatible with the existing UP board OS distribution (Yocto, Ubuntu, Windows 10, Android) and will be fully supported by UP Community (www.up-community.org).

The UP Team is currently working on building an open hardware community around UP Core. The team is creating open hardware carrier boards whilst sharing the scheme, layout, placement and BOM to the community.
Hardware designers will thus have the chance to independently produce the carrier boards or modify them.
Innovators who will join the development phase of UP Core will be able to be a part of the future UP Core Kickstarter campaign.
Active members of UP Core community will be rewarded for their contribution and they will have an opportunity to market all their products worldwide on UP Shop (www.up-shop.org).

Fabrizio Del Maffeo, UP Founder and Managing Director of AAEON Europe says:
“UP Core is bridging the gap between the world of embedded single board computers and the computer on modules. The unique business model based on an open software and hardware community will create value for everyone and speed up the time to market of tailor made products“

The 30 day Kickstarter Campaign will be launched on the 1st of May with special promotional offers starting from 79 USD.
From 1st of June, UP Core can be ordered online from UP Shop (www.up-shop.org) starting from 99 USD with 2GB RAM and 32GB of eMMC onboard.
Mass production is expected from mid June. For hardware design innovators who want to join the development right now, then limited free development samples can be requested directly from aling@up-board.org.
