From the beginning of the UP Core project, we’ve focused on making a universal BIOS on UP Core for all expansion boards; so that our makers can create their own expansion boards without spending any time and cost on BIOS customization.
To reach this goal, debugging and testing in BIOS and OS level with combinations of 3 different expansion boards caused a delay of almost 2 months! The clock is ticking fast and to speed up the progress, our BIOS engineer in Taiwan flew to Ireland last week to work with our Linux partner, Emutex. After a 72-hour intensive co-working session, we finally got our BIOS version ready for mass production!
For Kickstarters who backed UP Core only, you will be able to expect the board delivery in 3-4 weeks or sooner. If your pledge includes expansion boards or chassis, you probably need to wait for another 1-2 months. Though the BIOS verification result is good, we still need to go for another sample run on the expansion board to eliminate some hardware bugs. As for the chassis, we are waiting for the final sample to start tooling, and the tooling will take another 4-6 weeks. For people who backed carrier boards as well as chassis, your pledge will be delivered together with UP Core.
Now we are preparing all documentation for UP Core mass production. You will be able to expect UP Core 2D/3D drawings, test reports, certifications, and the expansion board design guide by the end of October.
Once again, thanks for your support!
UP Core is coming!!
