Two Intel® DevCup finalists chose AAEON’s UP Xtreme i11 Edge Compute Enabling Kit to demonstrate their AI innovation, with the help of Intel’s OpenVINO™ Toolkit, and showed how AI edge technology can be invaluable across different industries.

Zhi He Technology Co. Ltd

Aims:

This team’s motivation was to provide a two-camera system to monitor driver behavior and mitigate risks, both inside and outside the vehicle. The inside vehicle camera, the DMS, was to focus on driver behavior. The outward-facing camera, ADAS, was to monitor the car’s relationship with other road users.

Solution:

Using the UP Xtreme i11 Edge Compute Enabling Kit’s powerful CPU and expandability, with 5G and Wi-Fi 6 compatibility, the team was able to achieve excellent collaboration between the edge and the cloud. This meant each camera captured images and sent them to the Car Networking AI Platform to be analyzed by OpenVINO using AI inference.

Omnix Reality Interactive Studio

Aims:

This team’s aim was to reduce manufacturing errors during the production of box-type hand tool sets. Their DevCup entry concept was a system able to spot missing or incorrect items during the manufacturing process.

Solution:

Powered by the UP Xtreme i11 Edge, and using an open source object detection model, the team used a high-resolution (1280x720) camera to obtain and transfer images to the ScaledYOLOv4-csp open source object detection model. The AI inference model would receive the visual data and determine the correct response in real time.

  • Iris Xe Graphics Built-in: Provides the most powerful Intel integrated graphics, for accurate inferencing.
  • High-Speed Connectivity: The UP Xtreme i11 supports both 5G and Wi-Fi 6, allowing users to take advantage of high-speed connectivity and achieve fast data transference with ultra-low latency.
  • Intel OpenVino Built-in: Provides users with vision inferencing solutions, meaning they do not need to develop their own AI software.
  • Multiple I/O Ports: these include PCIE, USB, and eDP ports for extension, supporting Wi-Fi and 4G modules, along with LAN and COM functions.
