The UP Team just unveiled the next generation of UP on Kickstarter on the 1st of November 2016.

UP2 (UP Squared), the most powerful maker board ever, is based on the latest Intel® technology; formally known as Apollo Lake. It boasts the Intel® Celeron N3350 and Intel® Pentium N4200 with Altera FPGA MAX® 10 onboard. UP2 (UP Squared) is priced starting at just €89!

UP2 (UP Squared) squares the power of the UP board, the first credit card sized maker board with Intel® Atom™ x5 technology launched one year ago on Kickstarter and now adopted by more than 12,000 makers in various fields such as IOT, entertainment, digital signage, smart home automation, robotics, machine vision, intelligent vending and industrial automation.

Inheriting the 40-pin GP-bus from the first generation of UP, although this time controlled by Altera FPGA MAX 10, UP² (UP Squared) is powered by Intel® Celeron™ Dual Core N3350 up to 2.4GHz or Intel® Pentium™ Quad Core N4200 up to 2.5Ghz, up to 8GB of RAM LPDDR4 Dual Channels 64 bit onboard, up to 128 GB onboard eMMC 5.0, more I/O ports including 3 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0, 2 Gigabit LAN, 2 HDMI, eDP, mini PCI-e/mini card SATA, M.2 2230, SATA 3.0, 2 CSI and additional 60 pin board-to-board expansion (EXHAT) with GPIO and many other features.
The adoption of Altera MAX 10 FPGA gives great flexibility to all professional makers who need to implement specific features and protocols without loading the CPU and easily reconfigure the GPIO pin out.

UP² (UP Squared) is priced at 89€ for the Kickstarter campaign. Mass production based on N3350 and N4200 is scheduled for May 2017. New models of UP² (UP Squared) based on Intel® Atom™ x5 Quad Core E3940 and Intel® Atom™ x7 Quad Core E3950 will be released in June after the official mass production of Intel Atom CPUs.
